    Silks, Satin, and Other Fun Stuff--Taking the Fear Out of Handling the ``Other`` Fabrics

    You’ve been lured by those wonderful lustrous fabrics all your life but know they are difficult to work with. This is an in depth look at assorted “fun” fabrics, how to make them work for quilting and a look at the supplies that make them easier to use.

    The Body of Evidence

    A look at how a single quilt grew into a collection of quilts that explore the way women are viewed, used, and abused. Explore how a variety of techniques and materials, including non-tradional approaches and materials, made this series possible.

    Quilting With Wool

    Learn to put those skirt and jacket cutaways to use with this in depth study of wool and how to use it in patchwork. Types of wool, supplies and shortcut will be discussed.

    Quilting With Lame

    Want to add sparkle and flash to your quilts but have a deep fear of the unknown? This lecture/demo studies different types of lamés and the supplies and tricks that make them easy to use in quilting.

    3 hours or 6 hours

    Create a sampler using non-traditional quilting fabrics, those “other” fabrics you have always loved. Learn the special tricks to make each of these fabrics easy and fun to work with. Techniques are appropriate for machine and handwork.

    3 hours–begin handling fabric.
    6 hours–start small project using techniques learned.

    Learn free motion and couched machine appliqué with no turn under seam allowances, no unruly satin stitch.

    Sew-Mad Bags

    1-2 days–Beginner to Advanced
    (You must have basic sewing machine knowledge)

    Take a break and come sew a Sew-Mad Bag. Use sewing machine decorative machine stitches to embellish fun random size patches. Then turn your new fabric into a handbag. Several styles available. No sewing experience necessary. This is total playtime.
    Pattern required–$8.00 for tote, $12 for Hobo Bag (included hardware)
