I started making pastel quilts when I realized I needed a more complex background. I had tried solid, prints and hand-dyes and was not satisfied with the resolutes. Piecing the background gave me the color flow where I wanted it.

"Prayer Cloth"
"Prayer Cloth" started as a play with odd sized rectangles. I loved the jigsaw approach to piecing and the final irregular shape. As I contemplated the next move, I realized the peacefulness of the background. Multicolored strings wove together twigs, copper, brass, and beads.
"2001" is my ultimate pastel quilt. The background consists of decorator upholstery and drapery fabrics. The structure is a hand painted sheer.
I consider this quilt to be my most meditative. The colors are very calm and soothing, and the quilting very restful. There are also contradictions. It is a good place to focus.
